Focus on Fascinating Riviera Retailer: Soil

The space may be small, but the unique gift ideas are overflowing at Soil, a centrally located kiosk in the heart of the Riviera Village. Once an information booth, the kiosk sat empty for many years until 1998, when the owners of Soil proposed a small retail space with any profits exceeding a set amount being donated back to the local schools.

Today, Soil specializes in exquisitely scented candles, potted plants and unique hand crafted jewelry, art pieces and other gifts. “Our number one seller is our candles, especially our Trapp brand candles,” said co-owner Maria Saucedo. “We have our regulars who come here just to make sure they stock up on their favorite candles because the scents are so special.”

Soil recently teamed up with Aloha for People to sell their clothing. Founded in the South Bay, the company makes aloha shirts in Los Angeles using fabric hand-woven in Guatemala and Nepal. With every shirt sold, Aloha for People provides clean water to a child in need in those countries.

Stop by Soil to enjoy their specialty items at 1799 South Catalina Avenue in the Riviera Village, or call 310-791-2265. Their website can be found at www.soil.us.
